Saute pans have vertical sides. They hold liquids better than frying pans, but the sharp corner traps food more readily.
Some saute pans have a second handle in addition to the main handle.
As with most cookware, the thickness and material used to form the bottom determine much of the pan's thermal properties.
Weight is also a good indicator. A heavier pan is made from ticker metal.
